The label is quite young, it was only founded in 2018 in Antwerp. ecoBirdy has set itself the task of recycling old plastic toys and creating new ones. Because toys are most involved in getting plastic into the environment. 90 percent of the toys for babies and toddlers are made of plastic and have an average lifespan of six months. ecoBirdy gives these toys a new life. The young label has already received many international awards for its idea. Each piece of furniture produced is recyclable, a win-win situation for the environment and a beautiful design for the children's room.

ecoBirdy: Children's furniture made from recycled materials

The founders of ecoBirdy are Vanessa Yuan and Joris Vanbriel from Antwerp. They bring different cultural backgrounds and have come together after several professional experiences in various fields in the international fashion and design industry to work on their idea. The basic idea was to create solutions to environmental problems with innovative technologies. For two years they researched about sustainable recycling of plastic toys, the result is the ecoBirdy label. That's why ecoBirdy is co-funded by the COSME program of the European Union.

ecoBirdy has created a system that collects and recycles old and unused plastic toys to design and manufacture furniture. The ecoBirdy children's furniture collection is made from fully recycled plastic from European waste. Everything is produced in social and economic responsibility. The design of ecoBirdy furniture is made all over Europe. The furniture itself is completely recyclable, so a cycle that protects the environment.

Furniture for the nursery out of recycled plastic in an appealing shape

A children's furniture collection made from 100 percent recycled plastic is not easy to produce. It takes a lot of effort to guarantee safety and high quality.

All of the label's children's furniture is made from ecothylene®, a very innovative material developed by ecoBirdy itself. The plastic is previously separated by color, giving each product an original and unique look.

At ecoBirdy you will find every kind of furniture for children. Chairs and tables can even be anchored to the floor, making them well suited for public spaces. The first collection of designs consisted of nursery furniture and a nursery lamp with a colorful speckled look, made of small pieces of plastic toys. Each product is still a unique piece and available in many different colors.

During the recycling process, the plastic is carefully cleaned, sorted and shredded. All pollutants are removed and a special treatment of the surface makes them smooth and silky soft and therefore pleasant to the touch and also easy to clean. All ecoBirdy products are suitable for indoor as well as for outdoor use.

International awards for the young label

For the recycling idea, ecoBirdy has already received five international prizes and awards. For example, the International Design Award in January 2018. The designers were also invited with their creations in museums and exhibitions to exhibit the first pieces of the collection.

The story of ecoBirdy went viral and in Australia in 2018 they received the Good Design Award for their outstanding design and innovation. A beautiful and simple design story and a project that has an impact on the future of our planet.
The German Design Award was presented in 2019 - ecoBirdy was awarded for the best excellent design for the Charlie chair. In Belgium, ecoBirdy was awarded the Best Eco-Design Award, followed by several other awards that support and endorse the label's commitment to the environment.
