Grimms: Creative wooden toys with room for imagination

The founders of the label, Sven and Elke Grimm, follow the approach that children's toys are not only there to keep children busy, but that they should also be age-appropriate and support development. The wooden toy should stimulate the imagination as well as awaken the creative potential that lies dormant in every human being.

When children are given ready-made play and adventure worlds that have been worked out down to the smallest detail, then this inhibits their own creative powers. That's why Grimms makes sure to keep the play options as open as possible when designing toys, so as not to restrict the child's creativity, so that it can always develop in new directions. The label is inspired by Waldorf education and Montessori approaches when it comes to the design of the toy. Simple elements become tangible buildings such as farms, hospitals and more. The reduced design of the figures and elements creates more possibilities, because there are no limits to the imagination. The elements can be combined endlessly and Grimms consciously wants to create a counterpoint to the digital world. Childhood needs worlds of experience that can be touched and experienced with the hands, according to the label's motto.

For Grimms, sustainable design means being unaffected by short-lived trends and concentrating on the essentials. So the toy can become a faithful companion for many years.

Toys made from FSC-certified wood of the highest quality

All Grimms toys have a velvety rough surface, which is created by using color glazes that penetrate the wood fibers and leave a lively surface. The individual parts are dipped in color by hand and the final protective varnish is deliberately omitted so that all the positive properties of the wood are retained. In addition, translucent colors and vegetable oil are used, they are water-based, non-toxic, saliva-proof and certified so that they are safe to put in the mouth.

With a few exceptions, the pieces are sawn by hand with a love of detail and a high level of craftsmanship. The products are always unique, made by hand and bring traces of nature with them. Alder, linden, beech and maple wood are used and painted by hand. In some cases, Grimms also works with workshops that employ disabled people.

All products are regularly tested and comply with European toy safety standard EN71 and US standards. The label also actively supports reforestation projects. Grimms treats its employees responsibly in the form of fair wages and additional social benefits such as job security and good working conditions. Aid projects are regularly supported, so the label wants to do its part to make the world a better place.
