Lorena Canals: Washable carpets for children's rooms

The idea of designing children's carpets came to Lorena when she wondered why you can't wash children's carpets at home? There was no viable solution on the market, so she decided to make such carpets herself. Today, Lorena Canals products are a reference point when it comes to home textiles and decoration that are fun for adults and children alike. The carpets are now available in more than 2,500 stores worldwide and in more than 60 countries.

The Lorena Canals label has two own factories in India and offices in Barcelona and New York as well as shops in Europe, Asia and the USA. The designers collaborate with more than 170 artists who make the carpets by hand with loving attention to every detail. The label takes care to use only the best raw materials and to offer the artists fair working conditions. Lorena Canals is also involved in social projects. The Sakúla project in India was founded to provide a secure future for children and to give them access to education. In addition, the label has also launched other social projects. Some carpets bear the names of the children who have already benefited from the projects. Thanks to the donations Ritika, RamLal, Daksh, Aarty, Nancy and Arian could go to school.

Children's carpets in different colours, sizes and designs

The carpets and accessories are available in a wide range of designs, colours and sizes, making them suitable for every room. Twice a year, there is a new collection that follows the latest trends. At Lorena Canals you'll find carpets with stars, hearts, dots, space motifs or just the classic Berber pattern. The carpets are therefore suitable for every furnishing style and very child-friendly. Soft cotton turns the children's room into a playground suitable for children, but the carpets can also look good in the living room.

The label prefers soft and Mediterranean colours with clear and decorative shapes as well as cheerful and playful patterns. The carpets have a pile height of 11 to 20 millimetres and are therefore ideal for use as play carpets. The cotton also has a temperature-regulating effect, a great feature in children's rooms. All carpets are well processed and lightfast and are easy to clean in the washing machine. The easy cleaning is at the same time also very environmentally friendly, since no dry cleaning is needed, dirt can be washed out in no time, perfect for a household with children.

Traditional production methods and environmentally friendly dyeing processes

Every Lorena Canals product is handmade by artists and craftsmen in the north of India. Traditional weaving techniques and manufacturing methods are used. For this reason the products are unique and original. None of these carpets can be found twice in the world.

In order to achieve the most beautiful and environmentally friendly results in the dyeing process, only natural colours are used. The process is carried out with a dye powder which does not require hot water. The cotton fibres are wrapped around a stick and dipped one after the other in a stone bath with dye until the desired colour is achieved. The cotton fibres are then hung up to dry in the sun. After drying, they are taken to the factory to produce the cotton yarn.

Certified and pollution-free carpets with child-friendly designs

The factory in India is ISO9001, 14001 and 18001 certified. The washable acrylic and wool carpets are certified by the AITEX label (Textile Technological Institute), which ensures that the European safety criteria for children's products are met.
