Oeuf NYC: Ingenious design and cool cuts

The founders of Oeuf NYC are Michael Ryan and Sophie Demenge. He is American and she is French. Michael grew up in the US state of New York and is an engineer. He has a good eye for beautiful and minimalist design and takes care of functional products such as the company's children's furniture. Sophie grew up in Paris. She takes a practical and playful approach to product design. Her approach and philosophy was shaped by her philosophy studies at the Sorbonne in Paris and her education at an art school in San Francisco as well as by her time at the Pratt Institute. After meeting for the first time, they first worked at R+D Designs, a functional and stylish household goods company.

The two designers from Oeuf NYC are known for their ingenious pieces. It all began with the birth of their first child in 2002, which inspired the parents to use their talents to create beautiful, high-quality things for toddlers of modern parents. Together, they created Oeuf NYC with the vision of providing quality products for children that were sustainably produced and responsibly designed.

The joint work began with a single crib. Meanwhile, the company has launched several collections of stylish children's and youth furniture as well as children's clothing and toys that are sold all over the world. The brand made a name for itself early on, especially in knitwear for babies. Sweaters, hats and hooded jackets are all made of fine 100 percent baby alpaca wool, which is processed by hand. Wonderfully soft, comfortable and hypoallergenic.

The couple now have two children, who are also the source of inspiration for new products. Because they are parents themselves, they get a good insight into what children love and what parents want. This unites child-friendly furniture and decor in a stylish house furnishing. All beds are supplied without mattress, but the beds all fit standard 70 x 140 cm mattresses with a recommended minimum height of eight to nine centimetres.

Since the label was founded, Oeuf NYC has been committed to fair trade, ethical manufacturing and environmentally friendly production conditions.

All Oeuf products are absolutely environmentally friendly, from the material and manufacturing process to the recycled packaging in which the products are shipped. Only non-toxic water-based paints are used to protect children and workers. All materials such as solid wood, birch plywood and ecological MDF boards meet the strict European E1 and Californian CARB 2 emission standards and have been produced under ethical conditions.

High-quality materials guarantee great organic products for children 

Oeuf NYC knitwear is handmade in Bolivia under fair trade conditions by a group of women. They combine traditional craftsmanship with modern design. The working group in Bolivia is a WFTO certified organization, all suppliers adhere to the principles of fair trade, including payment, which is also fair. Gender equality and economic empowerment of women as well as good working conditions and respect for the environment are guaranteed. The baby alpaca wool is not only particularly soft and warm, but also sustainable, no chemical treatments are required. The alpacas come from the region in which the production takes place and are raised on small farms. Alpaca wool is a durable and high-quality material that is suitable for long-term use.

The cotton products are made of certified Pima cotton. Only the highest quality organic cotton from Peru is used for bed linen and baby equipment. It is silky to the touch and has an exceptionally high quality. Why Pima cotton? The fibres are longer, stronger and finer than conventional cotton. This means that it can be woven into finer and more luxurious fabrics with more colour brilliance and firmness. Due to the high quality of the fabric, each piece remains in good shape even after prolonged wearing. 

The hand-woven woollen blankets and pillows are handmade by a single craftsman. Traditional techniques are used that have been handed down from generation to generation in a family-run workshop in Peru. Each piece is therefore a unique work of art. Everything begins with the flocks of sheep in the highlands of the city of Puno. The wool consists of 100 percent wool yarn and is gently dyed with water-based dyes. Highly qualified weavers work on a traditional loom to produce each piece with care by hand.

The wood used for Oeuf NYC's great children's furniture also comes naturally from sustainable forestry and is made from sustainably produced and premium quality materials and is socially acceptable in Latvia in the EU, where there are huge and fast-growing coniferous forests covering more than 70 percent of the country's land area. Latvia is also a champion when it comes to wood processing and, as a full EU member, follows strict standards in the areas of work, safety, quality and the environment. Only non-toxic water-based varnishes are used for furniture paints.
